Professor Sefakor Komabu-Pomeyie an international disability rights advocate will be the resource person for the show. Sefakor carries not only acquired knowledge but comes on with rich experiential knowledge serving as hope and a reference point to the Youth of Burlington with disability as they transition into adulthood.

This is a new TV series intended to changing the negative narratives about Disability and debunking the myths surrounding it. Infants with disabilities might not suffer much emotional trauma due to the ‘over protective measures’ parents or guardians put in for their support. However, their stories in transitioning from childhood into adulthood becomes difficult and sometimes unbearable as their developmental challenges outgrow them. A youth with disability’s psychological frame of mind is so critical for their self definition and needs serious attention by input of requisite knowledge that inwardly resonates ‘I AM ABLE’.  This can be done through education, imparting knowledge to boost the self confidence of a youth with disability. This is important for their individual achievements. Parents, guardians, and the community as a whole must be correctly informed to be able to serve as a support base in shaping the future of the youth with disability in Burlington Vermont showing on the CCTV/Town Meeting TV network.

New Mental Health Urgent Care Facility in Burlington 11/12/2024

Bobby Lussier, CCTV, interviews Charlotte McCorkel, Senior Director of Client Services at Howard Center about the new Mental Health Urgent Care facility that opened in October. Howard Center’s new Mental Health Urgent Care (MHUC) provides a therapeutic alternative to emergency department visits for adults experiencing a self-defined mental health crisis. Located at 1 South Prospect Street, Burlington, staff can offer immediate support in a trauma-informed setting.

Mental Health Urgent Care Ribbon Cutting Ceremony 10/21/2024

Before opening on October 28, we invite you to a public open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 21 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Join us for remarks and guided tours of the Mental Health Urgent Care program. This initiative is in partnership with the University of Vermont Medical Center, Community Health Centers, Pathways Vermont, and the Vermont Department of Mental Health.

On the Waterfront: Medical Aid in Dying: Autonomy and Choice 09/25/2024

Host Mariah Riggs has a conversation with Betsy J. Walkerman, JD, President of Patient Choices Vermont.

Patient Choices Vermont (PCV) is dedicated to educating Vermonters about Medical Aid in Dying and end-of-life choice. Vermont's Patient Choice at End of Life Law (Act 39), enacted in May 2013, enables people who are terminally ill and who are capable of making their own medical decisions the option to request and receive medication that they can use to bring about a peaceful death if and when they so choose. 

Betsy Walkerman, PCV President, is a lawyer by training, having received her J.D. magna cum laude from Boston College in 1979. Over the past 30 years, Betsy has worked at the cross section of legal, finance and strategy to launch and build companies. In the 1980s and early ’90s, she was General Counsel, CFO and VP of Strategic Development at Aspen Technology, Inc. She founded her firm, Headwaters Strategy, LLC, in 1996, and since then has served as a consultant and/or board member for more than twenty emerging companies. Her work in the non-profit sector includes leadership roles on land trust projects, the performing arts, and serving on the board of the Lake Champlain Sailing Center. Early in her career, Betsy was associated with the Boston law firm of Bingham, Dana & Gould, and previously worked in the public sector, focusing on energy and transportation policy. Betsy worked closely with Dick and Ginny Walters since the inception of the death with dignity campaign in Vermont. She has led PCV as president and a director since 2015. In 2020, the board created the part-time staff position of President, Betsy was named to this position, and resigned from the board.
