Issues of Aging - Ohavi Sedek Social Action Cmte. 06/18/2015

The Ohavi Zedek Social Action Committee launches a year-long effort to explore and act on issues of aging not just for seniors, but for younger adults with aging loved ones, for parents raising children while also caring for aging parents, and for seniors themselves. Guest speaker Jim Leddy launches this initiative. An outstanding leader in the community, having recently completed a six-year term as Vermont State President of AARP, Jim was a State Senator from Chittenden County and selected by his peers to chair the Senate Health and Welfare Committee. The 'Y' Connection: Two State Alliances Target Obesity in Vermont 10/14/2013

On paper Vermont may be the healthiest state in the country (United Health Foundation, 2012), but more than a quarter of the state’s youth are overweight or obese. Two major alliances, Eat Well Play More Vermont and Live Healthy Vermont, will announce their joint efforts to address obesity and urge state leaders to improve physical activity and nutrition in schools. The current rulemaking process is underway to revise Vermont’s education standards. Integrated Arts Academy students will demonstrate how they stay active at school through the “Move it, Move it” Program. Announcing the initiative are: Jim Douglas, Former Vermont Governor
