After days of counting, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are declared the presumptive winners of both the popular and electoral college votes for the President and Vice-President of the United States. Spontaneous celebrations broke out from 11 in the morning to nightfall in cities around the country, including Burlington, VT. Community Groups, Unions Hold May Day Car Caravan Rallies On International Workers Day, solidarity with essential workers and calls for a “People’s Bailout” What: May 1st is celebrated around the world as International Workers Day. Vermonters are commemorating the holiday with car caravan rallies around the state. Community organizations and labor unions are organizing caravans to different symbolic sites to show solidarity with essential workers and lift up calls for crisis responses that focus on workers’ health and welfare. Daniel Bernard Roumain, known as DBR, is an extraordinary violinist from Haiti. He staged a 24-hour protest in front of City Hall, Burlington to protest the Trump administration policies on immigration. The artist is in the middle of a residency with the Flynn Center, the Lane Series and the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.

Migrant Justice March 10/01/2016

"Stop Violence and Deportations!" Rally, march, and speak-out sponsored by Migrant Justice to protest the detention of farmworker leader Miguel Alcudia.

On September 22, Migrant Justice farmworker leader Miguel Alcudia was leaving a VT dairy farm and his co-worker tipped him off that he was being followed by an unmarked car. When he arrived in the town of Vergennes, VT, undercover agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested him and took him into custody. This is the second Migrant Justice leader detained in recent months. Miguel is currently detained at Strafford County House of Correction in New Hampshire with $21,000 bail.

#NoDAPL Solidarity Action! 09/13/2016

The Camp of the Sacred Stones and the Red Warrior Camp, both leading the resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline, have put out a call for solidarity actions that target the corporations and financial institutions that are building and financing this pipeline through native lands.

Michels Corporation - the contractor building the Dakota Access Pipeline through the land of the Standing Rock Sioux - is also building the fracked gas pipeline in western Vermont.

In solidarity with the #NoDAPL resistance, join Vermont's pipefighters and march onto an active Vermont Gas/Michels pipeline construction site to shut them down for the day. Activists hold up the indigenous-led struggle 1500 miles away and raise money to send to this resistance out west.
