The Lawrence Debate Union is hosting the Robert Huber Debate Tournament, kicking off with a debate on lowering the drinking age.  Robert Huber coached debate at UVM for over 40 years and this tournament remembers him.  The Lawrence Debate Union at the University of Vermont was founded in 1899.  It is currently one of the leading debating programs in the world, with competitive success at natinal and international levels.

As part of St. Michael's College Sutherland Lecture Series, James K. Galbraith, Ph.D, Lloyd M. Bentsen Chair in Government and Business Relations and Professor of Economics at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, will speak on 'Inequality, Instability, and the Great Financial Crisis.  Mr. Galbraith's latest book is 'The Predator State: How Conservatives Abandoned the Free Market and Why Liberals Should Too.

The Essex Junction Trustees is the governing, legislative body for the Municipality of the Village of Essex Junction. The five member board is elected at large within the Village. The board includes the position of Village President. The position of president and vice president are decided (appointed) through a vote of the board itself.  This was a function of a charter update at the 2010 annual meeting. The three year terms of the Trustees are staggered to provide continuity. The Trustees usually meet twice per month on Tuesday evenings in the meeting room at the Village municipal office building at Five Corners The public is invited to attend all meetings, and may address the board or ask questions during a special “public to be heard” section at the beginning of each meeting.
