The House Committee on Government Operations of the Vermont General Assembly convened a public hearing on Thursday, November 10 in the chamber of the House of Representatives at the State House in Montpelier. This hearing was held to afford the public an opportunity to offer comments on the Legislative Apportionment Board’s proposal for reapportioning House districts so as to reflect population changes recorded in the 2010 United States decennial census. In accordance with 17 V.S.A. § 1903(a), “The house of representatives and the senate shall be reapportioned and redistricted on the basis of population during the biennial session after the taking of each decennial census of the United States.” This hearing is one in a series that the committee will hold this fall across the state of Vermont and will focus on the Board’s proposed House districts for the towns of Washington County; Buel’s Gore and the towns of Bolton and Huntington in Chittenden County; the towns of Danville, Groton, and Peacham in Caledonia County; the towns of Chelsea, Newbury, Orange, Topsham, Vershire, Washington, and Williamstown in Orange County; and the towns of Eden, Elmore, Johnson, Hyde Park, Morristown, and Wolcott in Lamoille County.
