Conversation on Race Now - Listening to the Voices of Youth 10/11/2012

Conversation on Race Now (C.O.R.N.) invites community members in a listening session to the voices of youth. Facilitated by: Dr. Stacey Miller. Burlington Ward 1 NPA Meeting 10/10/2012

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to encourage citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies help improve communication between the citizens of Burlington and City government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Ward 1 meets the second Wednesday of the month. Meeting place: UVM's Memorial Lounge Waterman Building. Agenda items for this meeting include: City Council Update: Sharon Bushor, Speak Out and Update on Neighborhood Issues, B.E.D. General Manager, Barbara Grimes, on the Smart Grid/Smart Meter implementation, 3 story apartment building with underground parking at 110 Riverside Avenue.

Williston Development Review Board 10/09/2012

Development Review Board (DRB) - The Williston DRB consists of a seven member Board appointed by the Selectboard for staggered three year terms. This Board is responsible for reviewing and approving all proposed development projects. This includes conditional use, variance, site plan, and subdivision approvals. Heart and Soul of Essex is a community conversation for envisioning the future. What are we doing? ENGAGING the community in dialogue about the future.
Creating a VISION based on what people are saying. ACTIVATING lots of people from our community to take ACTION to move towards our vision.
What do we believe? Everyone deserves a say.
Planning for the future should be guided by what’s most important to the community.
Our community will be more successful if people from the town and village have a chance to talk together about the future and discover our shared interests.
Why does it matter? Essex is growing and changing. We want to hold onto what is special about our community and we want the changes that do happen to reflect what matters to the people who live and work here. Is this about merger? No. Past merger conversations have been about changing our governance structure. Heart & Soul is about discovering areas where we have similar interests and identifying ways to work together to accomplish our shared vision.

This is a different way to approach government, to explore new ways to communicate about what matters to us and to make sure our planning decisions are guided by our shared values.

CCTV Center for Media & Democracy is pleased to announce receipt of a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Humanities Collections and Reference Resources grant alongside 32 peer archival institutions across the country.
