Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebrations: Martin Luther King Jr. Remembrance Ceremony 2020 01/19/2020

This is an event created by the Greater Burlington Multicultural Resource Center in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his effect in our country. This year's keynote speaker is Mayor Steven Reed, the First African American mayor to be elected in Montgomery, Alabama. The event also features the local Congolese Choir, New Alpha Missionary Baptist Church Choir, and the 2020 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards.

Most people are starting to come to understand that the United States constitution has a loophole that has always permitted slavery “for the punishment of a duly convicted crime.” But what would you say if you discovered the Vermont State constitution contains a loophole of its own?

Harvey Amani Whitfield, Professor and Author; Peter Teachout, Vermont Law School Constitutional Law Professor; and former US Attorney and Author Gary Shattuck comprise a panel to discuss the implications. Executive Director of Justice For All, Mark Hughes, and legislators update us on efforts underway to amend the constitution and more. PR.2 is recommended for review prior to attending.

Join up to 8 other youth to engage in interesting media making projects! This paid media internship opportunity is designed for youth aged 16-20 who are eager to gain professional experience in the audio-visual field and develop a deeper understanding of their local community. The group will meet under the leadership of Town Meeting TV's Travis Washington from the end of January 2025 to the beginning of June 2025, on a schedule agreed upon by the whole cohort.
