Ethan Allen Homestead Enrichment Program: Vermont’s Ebenezer Allen - Patriot, Commando, and Emancipator 10/18/2020

Glenn Fay is a seventh-generation Vermonter and was an educator for many years as an adjunct professor at UVM and a chemistry teacher at CVU High School in Hinesburg. He became hooked on primary source research related to the American Revolution and maritime War of 1812 on Lake Champlain while completing an NSF Grant. As a result, he is now researching the life and characters in New England during the same moment in history. He has a BS in biology and earned a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies. His book, "Vermont's Ebenezer Allen: Patriot, Commando, Emancipator," is due out on or before July 4, 2021.

Stopping Stones Dedication for Lavinia and Francis Parker 09/13/2020

Ohavi Zedek Synagogue, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and Stopping Stones presented an in-person and virtual ceremony recognizing the lives of Lavinia Parker and her child, Francis, both enslaved from 1835-1841 in Burlington, Vermont. Stopping Stones is an historical reparations endeavor designed to help you and your organization eliminate institutional racism through 1) Research, 2) Recognition, and 3) Repair.

A Call to Honor Suffragists on Women’s Equality Day 08/26/2020

The Vermont Suffrage Centennial Alliance (VSCA) and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF Burlington) commemorate the historic passage of the 19th Amendment in front of Burlington’s City Hall (149 Church Street).

August 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the landmark 19th Amendment which prohibits the federal government and any state from denying citizens their right to vote on account of sex. In the final push for suffrage, women picketed in front of the White House six days a week, holding banners and using silence as protest. These Silent Sentinels, numbering approximately 2,000 over two and a half years, faced arrest, derision, torture, and jail.

Silent no longer, Vermont women and men urge passers-by to reflect on the importance of the vote for all citizens in our democracy while carrying non-partisan signs, wearing 1920s apparel or Votes for Women sashes, engaging in dialog about the importance of voting, and passing out voter information. We encourage attendees to wear the suffrage colors: white, purple, and/or gold.

Hiroshima Day 08/06/2020

On Hiroshima Day, August 6, WILPF Burlington lead a procession down Church Street in Burlington with the large peace cranes of The Bread and Puppet Theater at dusk. They then proceeded to Lake Champlain to join up with the Peace and Justice Center for singing and a floating of candle boats on the lake.

Town Meeting TV is excited to announce that applications are now open for the Spring 2025 cohort of the Neighborhood Community Media Internship program. Join up to 8 other youth to engage in interesting media making projects! This paid media internship opportunity is designed for youth aged 16-20 who are eager to gain professional experience in the audio-visual field and develop a deeper understanding of their local community. The group will meet under the leadership of Town Meeting TV's Travis Washington from the end of January 2025 to the beginning of June 2025, on a schedule agreed upon by the whole cohort.
