From Dr. Wetchi:

Host Dr. Jules Wetchi chats with Sophi Veltrop and Kashka Orlow, members from the Climate Change Action Office. Climate change is now affecting every country on every continent. It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives, costing people, communities and countries dearly today and even more tomorrow.

Sophi Veltrop joined the Climate Action Office in 2023 to support community engagement and communications efforts. In this role she collects and shares public input about climate action and climate-related policy with decision-makers. Her role also includes making State of Vermont climate information meaningful and accessible to Vermonters. Sophi’s background is in non-profit communications and engagement. She has worked for various land conservation organizations and in extracurricular education. She lives in Woodbury.

Kashka Orlow is a consultant with the Consensus Building Institute, working to support the efforts of the Climate Action Office. She is an activist and a mother. As an immigrant herself, she can personally relate to many of the struggles and challenges faced by immigrant and low-income communities. Her goal is to help uplift the voices of those who are not represented in state and local government. She lives in the Old North End in Burlington with her two daughters.

A discussion about the terror of nuclear war and the documentary “A Television Event”, which focuses on the impact of “The Day After” - a famous 1983 TV movie about nuclear war in the U.S.

Discussion led by Jim Carrier of The Progressive magazine and Charlotte Dennett, writer and investigative journalist, about the possibility of a nuclear exchange from the Middle East to Korea to Ukraine.

At the screening, the Vermont Peace/Antiwar Coalition will announces its 2024 campaign - Let’s Get Real: Divestment, Imperialism, Nukes.

After 10 months of recovery, how are our communities doing? What resources are serving us well? What opportunities are opening up? A panel of local, state, and federal leaders dealing with the daily ins and outs of Flood Recovery in Vermont help us reflect on what we’ve been able to accomplish, what best practices and resources we can draw on at this point, and what the next phase of recovery and rebuilding may look like.
