Engagement and Community in the Digital Space 11/29/2017

Presented as part of the Emergent Landscape Critical Conversations speaker series and hosted by the masters programs in Emergent Media. Karen Mittelman, the new executive director at the Vermont Arts Council, leads a discussion with Peter Gilbert, executive director of the Vermont Humanities Council, and Robin Perlah, program director of the masters programs in Emergent Media, on the impact of digital technology on the arts and humanities. They look at the power of digital tools (such as games for change) to enhance learning opportunities and expand access, but also consider the challenges of building genuine community in a digital “town square.” Karen reflects upon her experience as director of the Division of Public Programs at the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) in Washington DC, where she was instrumental in funding digital projects, such as Walden, A Game.

Polyfaces: A World of Many Choices 08/09/2016

AARP has developed a tool (livability index) for planners, citizens and others to determine the 'livability' of communities leading to ways to improve upon weaknesses. Town Meeting TV is excited to announce that applications are now open for the Spring 2025 cohort of the Neighborhood Community Media Internship program. Join up to 8 other youth to engage in interesting media making projects! This paid media internship opportunity is designed for youth aged 16-20 who are eager to gain professional experience in the audio-visual field and develop a deeper understanding of their local community. The group will meet under the leadership of Town Meeting TV's Travis Washington from the end of January 2025 to the beginning of June 2025, on a schedule agreed upon by the whole cohort.
