Episode 2: Our Democracy with Rick Hubbard 03/29/2018

The strategy of pressing Congress to enact broad reform has failed in the past and is continuing to fail, yet hundreds of nonprofit advocacy organizations are currently pressing Congress to pass legislation and to propose a 28th constitutional amendment that would overturn Citizens United and rid politics of the corrupting influence of money.

Even if Citizens United were overturned, it will not rid politics of the corrupting influence of money. Political contributions from the few, raised the old way, have been corrupting Congressional outcomes for decades, well before Citizens United further opened the floodgates.

Movement to Save Our Democracy 03/16/2016

Host Lauren-Glenn Davitian is joined by Rick Hubbard, Vermont Coordinator for Democracy Spring and Democracy Awakening events scheduled for April of 2016, Joanna Cummings, Concerned Citizen, and Ben Clark, Middlebury College Student and Organizer, to share event information and the movement that aims to save our democracy.

On April 2, the Democracy Spring march will begin at the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia and march to the steps of the U.S. Capitol in Washington. More than 2,000 people have pledged to join the protest and risk arrest between April 11-18 in what is hoped to be the largest act of civil disobedience in a generation with the hope of opening the door to reforms once considered impossible and reclaim democracy. On April 16-18, Democracy Awakening will continue the event with teach-ins, sit-ins, and more.

Town Meeting TV is excited to announce that applications are now open for the Spring 2025 cohort of the Neighborhood Community Media Internship program. Join up to 8 other youth to engage in interesting media making projects! This paid media internship opportunity is designed for youth aged 16-20 who are eager to gain professional experience in the audio-visual field and develop a deeper understanding of their local community. The group will meet under the leadership of Town Meeting TV's Travis Washington from the end of January 2025 to the beginning of June 2025, on a schedule agreed upon by the whole cohort.
