On the Waterfront: Interview with Orly Yadin about the Vermont International Film Festival 2022 08/17/2022

Orly Yadin, Executive Director of VTIFF since Jan 2012, is a filmmaker and producer of both documentaries and animation films and series. Prior to making films, she was a film researcher on historical programmes and since 2001 has been Managing Director of Footage Farm – an archival footage collection. Orly has also taught documentary film history and theory in universities in England and at Burlington College. In 1995 she co-founded and ran Halo Productions specializing in animation films. Many of Halo’s short films won international awards at festivals, and one, Silence, was shortlisted for the Academy Awards. Orly became a VT resident in 2004 and has been a US citizen since 2010.

This year's festival will take place October 21-30, 2022. Located at the Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center with some virtual options and a satellite venue at The Savoy Theater in Montpelier.

Jet Line: Voicemails from the Flight Path 04/15/2021

This short documentary employs an anonymous hotline to elevate the voices beneath Vermont’s F-35 flight path, the first urban residents to live with one of the US military’s most controversial weapons systems overhead.

Tranquil scenes of unassuming neighborhoods near Burlington International Airport are juxtaposed with voicemails of the unheard, those drowned out by the ear-shattering “sound of freedom.”

Exploring the relationship between picturesque residential areas and the deafening weapons systems overhead, Jet Line is a poetic portrait of a community plagued by war machines, documenting untenable conditions in a small city once voted one of the best places to live in America.

Surviving Plenty - Archival Filmmaking in the Age of Mass Production 10/12/2013

Money, patience and courage are no longer necessities for filmmakers choosing to work with archives. While it can still be a struggle to access archival material, vast resources are now freely available for viewing (and often, reuse). But freedom brings new challenges. How can career mediamakers thrive in an age of mass authorship and distributed creativity? What emerging modes of archival work offer the greatest promise? And how can we best use archival material to make works that plumb moving image history so as to propel it forward? Rick Prelinger explores these and other issues in an image-rich talk that includes audience discussion. Rick Prelinger, an archivist, writer and filmmaker, founded Prelinger Archives, whose collection of 60,000 advertising, educational, industrial, and amateur films was acquired by the Library of Congress in 2002 after 20 years’ operation. Part of the Vermont International Film Festival with sponsorship by UVM Burack Distinguished Lecture Series.

Summer Video Production Internship - Applications Open

Town Meeting TV is hiring two paid interns to join our production team for the summer! The program will run from Monday, June 24th until Friday, August 16th (8 weeks). $17 an hour, approximately 8 hours per week. We are looking for folks who have basic or intermediate experience with video recording and editing on Adobe Premiere. Interns will work with the Town Meeting TV Co-Directors to pick stories or events that they would like to cover in our community, practice outreach skills, then shoot and edit video that will be broadcasted on Town Meeting TV's YouTube and cable channels. Interested applicants should send their resume and cover letter (including why they are interested in this position and any relevant experience) to Jordan at jmitchell@cctv.org.
