2012 Town Meeting

The greater Burlington area has been fortuitous to gain an increase in its racial and ethnic diversity, making it a more international community; but these changes also require intentional efforts to make Burlington welcoming for all. So what changes are being implemented to ensure that we are an inclusive and equitable community? A demographic shift requires a careful assessment and adaption in how business (private and public) is conducted in order to equitably serve all of its residents. Not making changes to a mono-cultural system inadvertently excludes groups from accessing goods, services and opportunities. Lack of knowledge and inertia is not an option for creating equity.

Burlington mayoral candidates speak to how they would address these disparities, creating systems of accountability so that all of Burlington's residents can thrive and truly feel a part of the larger community.
