On the Waterfront: Laura Kate Winterbottom Memorial Fund 08/19/2015 Host Melinda Moulton speaks with JoAnn and Ned Winterbottom on the Laura Kate Winterbottom Memorial Fund, established in 2005 by the family and friends of Laura after her abduction, rape, and murder on March 8 of that same year. At the time of her passing, Laura was a children’s art teacher and a dedicated community volunteer for many Burlington, VT organizations, including Burlington City Arts’ Art from the Heart, ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center, Home Share Vermont, the Humane Society of Chittenden County, and KidSafe Collaborative. To date the LKW Fund has donated nearly $100,000 to over forty different Chittenden County and Vermont-based organizations.
Senator Patrick Leahy: Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet 09/02/2015 Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), welcomes Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet to Vermont for a Peace Corps recruitment event for students at UVM, Middlebury College and Saint Michael’s College. The event highlights UVM’s Peace Corps Prep Program, which was established to offer more targeted and skill-building opportunities to undergraduate students interested in serving in the Peace Corps or in other international development and service organizations. Leahy long has championed the Peace Corps and for more than two decades has headed the Senate panel that funds its annual budget. Leahy currently is the Ranking Member of the State Department and Foreign Operations Subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee.

Congo Luzingu Festival 08/15/2015 The August 15th Congo Luzingu Festival was held at Burlington's Contois Auditorium. The goal of the Congo Luzingu (Congo Life) event is to strengthen mutual understanding between Congolese people who have settled in Vermont and friends, neighbors, co-workers, employers and the wider community. The festival celebrates Congolese art, music, dance, poetry, geography, food and traditions.
