Burlington City Market The Dish: A Series For Inquisitive Eaters: Local is Accessible? 11/04/2015

“Local” is a popular buzzword in our food system, but even if food is grown locally, does that mean it’s more accessible? According to US Census data, 13% of Vermont households are food insecure, meaning they don’t have access to enough food to meet basic needs at all times. While creating economic opportunities for Vermont farmers and food producers has been a major goal within our state, the development of the local food system hasn’t necessarily made food more affordable for people experiencing food insecurity. We’ll explore this multifaceted issue and discuss innovative approaches during a lively panel discussion with local food producers and representatives from organizations focused on alleviating food insecurity in Vermont. What’s Next for Vermont’s Climate Change Economy? 10/29/2015

Area businesses and nonprofits are increasingly involved with climate change--both its challenges and opportunities. Their creative solutions are becoming a growing part of our state’s economy. The Vermont Council on Rural Development (VCRD) public forums hears from people already adapting and growing businesses that lower Vermont’s carbon impact and gathers ideas from the public on how to nurture this emerging field, include this Burlington venue.

The forums are the next step for public input to the Vermont Climate Change Economy Council. This group, formed following a statewide Summit in February, is developing a practical plan to reduce carbon emissions and stimulate green economic development in Vermont. The panelists include local business leaders and elected officials.

The Summit focused on economic development in a time of climate change, including transportation, education, investment strategies, downtown redevelopment, tourism, and efficiency. CCTV Receives NEH Grant to Support Community Archives

CCTV Center for Media & Democracy is pleased to announce receipt of a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Humanities Collections and Reference Resources grant alongside 32 peer archival institutions across the country.
