Vermont Operation: Military Kids (VT OMK) works towards educating communities on the experiences and challenges of military life, its impact on families, and to provide positive opportunities for youth. Vermont Operation: Military Kids is an outreach effort sponsored by ARMY Child and Youth Services in collaboration with University of Vermont Extension 4-H Youth Development, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, The American Legion, Military Child Education Coalition along with other state and local organizations.

Burlington Wards 4 & 7 NPA Meeting 06/21/2011

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to empower citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies facilitate communication between the citizens of Burlington and city government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Wards 4 & 7 meet the third Tuesday of the month. Meeting place: Robert E. Miller Community Center 130 Gosse Court.

Uncommon Alliance; Youth and Family Summer Engagement Update 06/20/2011

Uncommon Alliance's primary goal is to dismantle racial and ethnic profiling in our criminal justice system. This objective is realized by building positive relationships between members of affected communities and criminal justice professionals, and by providing continuing opportunities for dialogue and study around issues of race. Wanda Hines, Uncommon Alliance Sterring Committee member hosts the Youth Outreach Planning Committee comprised of community member Julio Perez, Winooski Police Chief Steve McQueen, and Service Rendered Director Bruce Wilson, on the ongoing efforts and events towards engaging youth of all ages in positive activities.

Senator Bernie Sanders: Vermont After School Programs Receive Federal Funds 06/17/2011

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) secured $500,000 from the federal Office of Juvenile Justice towards after school programs. The Vermont Department of Education will administer the money. The awards will be split between 27 school programs and will reach more than 2,500 students. Program funding ranges between $7,000 and $46,470 and provide a variety of programs across all grade levels. Three summer programs are featured at the press conference: Linking Learning to Life in Burlington and Bradford; Girls Move Mountains based in Montpelier; and the Fairfield Summer Program in Fairfield.

CCTV Receives NEH Grant to Support Community Archives

CCTV Center for Media & Democracy is pleased to announce receipt of a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Humanities Collections and Reference Resources grant alongside 32 peer archival institutions across the country.
