Artful Word: Game (Life): Video Games in Contemporary Art, Jonathan Blow 01/29/2010

Video games have emerged as our culture’s dominant form of popular entertainment, eclipsing both music and cinema. Lacking structured narratives, morally ambiguous, and oblivious to geo-political boundaries, the rise of video game culture is set to transform our notions of identity and location, blurring boundaries between the real and the un-real. Game(Life) transforms the gallery into a functioning video arcade. More than a dozen provocative and reflective works by contemporary artists and independent game designers from around the world engage visitors in play, exploration and confront questions of political activism, pacifism, violence, emotional resonance and beauty in gaming environments.

Burlington Mayor's Press Conference: Burlington Winter Festival Press Conference 01/27/2010

The 18 year tradition of Winter Festival continues with these partners: The event planning class of UVM's Community Development and Applied Economics Department will be partnering with The Church Street Marketplace, Vermont Special Olympics, Kids Vermont Camp and School Fair and Burlington Parks and Recreation with ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center Leahy Center for Lake Champlain to bring a day of winter fun and activities to the Burlington community.

The Penguin Plunge sponsored by Special Olympics Vermont takes place at 11am on the Waterfront on this same day. The Kids Vermont Camp and School Fair at the Hilton Hotel is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where you can pick a camp or school option for your children for the summer.
