Description

The Attorney General announces the filing of a lawsuit and a motion for preliminary injunction against a data broker start-up for violations of the Vermont Consumer Protection Act and the Data Broker Law. Vermont’s Data Broker Law went into effect last year and was the first law of its kind in the country. The State’s claims supported by the Data Broker Law will be one of first impression for the Court.

The defendant’s violations relate to the collection and sale of biometric data of Vermonters, including children. The complaint includes claims involving civil liberties and a right to privacy.
