Ted Wimpey speaks with Artist, Exhibition Designer, Promoter, and Affordable Housing Advocate, Corrine Yonce and CCTV Staff Member Meghan O'Rourke. The primary discussion topic is the history of Burlington's new resident controlled, affordable housing community of 336 homes in the New North End.
The board of Northgate Resident Ownership Corporation (NROC), a non-profit, is working with Ms. Yonce and with CCTV Productions to produce a historical timeline of the saving of Northgate residents from the displacement of low and moderate Northgate residents, who constitute the overwhelming majority of residents, and the conversion to all market-rent, high-end condominiums. In a long process involving many individuals, nonprofit organizations, and governmental agencies, Northgate residents became organized, energized and empowered.
Residents now control and essentially own the Northgate apartments via mandated majority resident representation on the NROC board of directors.
CCTV Productions is working with Ms. Yonce and a committee of the Northgate board on a very comprehensive digital timeline of Northgate history and a physical artistic representation of the timeline for site display.
