Farewell to Faye Lawes, Executive Secretary to the Mayor 08/31/2009

The Executive Secretary to the Mayor, Faye Lawes, will be retiring from City employment after 22 years of work in the Mayor’s Office and a career that has spanned the administrations of four different Burlington mayors, beginning in 1987 with Bernie Sanders. Ms. Lawes has served the City in various capacities since 1973, working first for the Parks Department, but from 1987 to the present has been the Executive Secretary in the Mayor’s Office.

Bernie Sanders called for a new Financial Product Safety Commission to protect consumers from abusive lenders and also announced a $130,000 federal grant to improve financial literacy for young people in Vermont. Sanders was joined at the press conference in Burlington, Vt., by Joseph G. Bergeron, president of the Association of Vermont Credit Unions, which will work with local business leaders, educators and volunteers, to teach middle and high school students the importance of financial literacy.
