Host Mark Hughes is joined by Burlington Police Chief Brandon del Pozo. With the honor of having the police chief on the show, Mark takes the time to get his perspectives on the way in which Burlington is moving forward with racial equity, diversity, and inclusion. They discuss the gathered data collection from 2018 such as car stops and use of force. Mark also gets a perspective the Police Chief's insight on diversity in the department, what the city is doing at a local level, and what is being done at a state level.
Last week the Governor announced the appointment of the first “Racial Equity Executive Director” in Vermont history. This long awaited appointment is the latest step in the implementation of Act 9 (2018), a bill that created a panel and this Executive Director “to identify and work to eradicate systemic racism within State government.” During this episode, Mark and the Police Chief take a closer look into the duties of Racial Equity Executive Director. They also take a look into the Racial Dispaities and State Stystems Report (ACT 54) from 2017. This report was put together by the Attorney General and Human Rights Commission Task Force.
