Alan E. Rubel is a co-author/editor of a powerful collection of 43 stories about the reality of being an unpaid caregiver. The book, The Greatest Burden. The Greatest Blessing, includes stories involving a variety of areas of caregiving. As Rubel notes, “our mission is to help today’s and tomorrow’s caregivers through these stories.”

A former board member of the Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice; a competitive Senior Games javelin thrower; and the current Co-Chair of Ohavi Zedek’s Cemetery Committee, Rubel will discuss his book and the challenges and rewards facing caregivers.

Ohavi Zedek Lunch & Learn: The Forgotten History of Barre’s Jewish Community 05/16/2024

With deep ties to Burlington and Montpelier, Barre’s Jewish families nevertheless forged their own singular identity in a diverse environment of Yankees, Italians, French Canadians, Scots, Spanish, Syrians, and other vibrant ethnic groups.

Dr. (and Rabbi) Carol Harris-Shapiro (who is also a part-time resident of Barre) will share some of the unique stories of Barre’s Jewish residents and the life of their community, based on information she has gathered from interviews, books and articles, and genealogical research.

Moving the Lost Shul Mural Tour 05/06/2015

Follow the move of the Lost Shul Mural from the Chai Adam Synagogue on Burlington's Hyde Street, to it's new home at Ohavi Zedek Synagogue on North Prospect Street. An engineering and organizational feat, enjoyed by the many watching, the many participating and the many to benefit from saving this importatnt piece of history and art. Preservation Burlington: Lost Shul Mural - Preparing for the Move 01/30/2015

Ron Wanamaker leads viewers on a tour of the Chai Adam Synagogue on Burlington's Hyde Street, as preparations are made for the continuing restoration, removal and moving of the historic 1910 mural, representative of traditional Eastern European Jewish art. Aaron Goldberg and Jeff Potash, Lost Shul Mural Project Co-Directors, share insights into the history and efforts towards preservatoin. Join up to 8 other youth to engage in interesting media making projects! This paid media internship opportunity is designed for youth aged 16-20 who are eager to gain professional experience in the audio-visual field and develop a deeper understanding of their local community. The group will meet under the leadership of Town Meeting TV's Travis Washington from the end of January 2025 to the beginning of June 2025, on a schedule agreed upon by the whole cohort.
