Congressman Peter Welch: Effort to Avert Scheduled Doubling of Student Loan Interest Rates 04/16/2012

With federally subsidized Stafford Student loan interest rates set to double on July 1st, Rep. Peter Welch announces efforts to block the increase.
The announcement comes as student loan debt is reaching a crisis point. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, student loan debt has reached $870 billion. That number exceeds credit card and auto loan debt and is expected to continue rising.
Welch is joined by Cody Paiva, a UVM junior; Patrick Mangus, a recent graduate of CCV; Ben Truman, a parent of a student entering college; and Don Vickers, President and CEO of Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC), to discuss legislation he is pushing in the U.S House to avert the scheduled rate hike.

Robert Huber Debate Tournament - Lowering the Drinking Age 11/04/2011

The Lawrence Debate Union is hosting the Robert Huber Debate Tournament, kicking off with a debate on lowering the drinking age. Robert Huber coached debate at UVM for over 40 years and this tournament remembers him. The Lawrence Debate Union at the University of Vermont was founded in 1899. It is currently one of the leading debating programs in the world, with competitive success at natinal and international levels.

Public Debate: Did Fogel Earn It? 10/20/2011

The Lawrence Debate Union is hosting a public debate to analyze whether or not former University of Vermont President, Dan Fogel did, indeed, earn his monetary compensation. Participants will include selected members of both the student body and the faculty.

CCTV Receives NEH Grant to Support Community Archives

CCTV Center for Media & Democracy is pleased to announce receipt of a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Humanities Collections and Reference Resources grant alongside 32 peer archival institutions across the country.
