From the organizer:
A speak out and protest for Black Femmes/NB/Trans Womxn in Vermont. A space for Black Femmes/Womxn and to tell our truths as Black Femmes/NB/Womxn in Vermont.
We are gathering and standing up for Black Femmes in Vermont following the racist and sexist attacks of defamation by the City of Burlington against Tyeastia Green and Casey “Jersey” Ellerby. While once celebrated for her groundbreaking work and the accolades her work brought the city, Tyeastia left her historic position due to workplace hostility, latent racism, bias, discrimination and malfeasance under the direction and guidance of Mayor Miro Weinberger and his administration.
Although neither Tyeastia nor Jersey live or work in Vermont, the city intentionally chose to engage in a smear campaign to call into question the management of one specific project produced by REIB: Burlington Juneteenth
The results of their unfounded attacks have been devastating for all involved. The resonance of what Tyeastia and Casey are experiencing can be felt in the stories of Black femmes/NB/Trans womxn throughout Vermont.
On Monday, we say, enough. The city of Burlington will discuss the findings of the “audit” and has released it in full to the press and subsequently the public without ever sharing the results with the two persons named on Monday.
