Take Back the Digital Space and Unhinge The Shackles of The Online World.

September 21, 2011

ARE YOU COMING? Are you coming on Thursday (tomorrow!) to hear Jeff Chester talk about Digital Media at the Crossroads. We used to worry about how television rots our brains but now we live in a 24-7, 3-D media-ted world with high stakes. Our identities--across the globe--are for sale to the highest bidder. Our choices are pre-determined by the online news, advice, products and relationships we consume. Can we take back the digital space? Can we unhinge the shackles of the online world?  Find out more and RSVP! for Jeff's talk at Noon or at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 22nd.

YOU’LL BE CHANGED: CCTV is joining forces with our fellow free speech organizations to host Jeff Chester because we think you will hear an unforgettable talk. Hopefully, you, too, will become a “Paul Revere” of Media Reform and take action to protect your privacy in the fight for civil liberties and human rights!

We hope you can make it! Jeff is speaking at two events:
CCTV’s 6th Annual Nonprofit Lunch at Noon and at a Public Talk slated for 7 p.m. at Champlain College Auditorium

IT'S TIMELY: Jeff Chester and the Center for Digital Democracy is working hard to protect us and our children online. News of his important work before the Federal Trade Commission hit the stands last week in the LA Times and Ars Techica.

This morning, new changes to Facebook unleashed a slew of responses from people who feel that their "living room" has been rearranged in the middle of the night without their permission.  The truth is, as important as it has become to our social, political and economic lives, most of what we do on the Internet is not Public Space but rather privately controlled corporate space. We all "pay" for use of this space with our digital information.

RSVP! Find out more and RSVP

P.S. – Extra Special thanks to our partners: Jeff Chester, United Way of Chittenden County, VCAM, RETN, ACLU-VT, Vermont Commons, University of Vermont Libraries, Vermont Library Association, Vermont School Library Association, The Radiator, Front Porch Forum and Seven Days.
