Common Good Vermont Establishes Advisory Circle

Following a well-attended Annual Meeting (1/11/10), Common Good Vermont announced an “inner circle” Advisory Group to be formed in order to guide the current and future direction of the capacity building initiative. We’ve been advised to make the “ask” clear and actionable.

On Wednesday, February 17th from 10 am – 12 pm at the Kellogg Hubbard Library, Advisors and other highly interested nonprofit community members are invited to contribute their specialized knowledge as part of a Common Good Vermont “Advisory Committee” and in one of the following Working Groups:

Statewide “Gathering” Group – Brief: Identify event type, cultivate champions (vendors, presenters, attendees), estimate costs, consider event format/agenda (including “un-conference” model), assume responsibility for event, maximize networking opportunities, help promote turnout. Role: Host, Activity: Party/Event Planning

Network Building Group – Brief: Serve as ambassador of program, identify missing networks, agree on effective measures of impact, integrate network “learning” and consider/ recommend can be done differently. Role: Ambassador, Activity: Friendraising

Business Planning and Sustainability Group – Brief: Review pros and cons of related business models for nonprofit capacity intermediaries, develop basic data set, assess revenue opportunities, recommend appropriate scale development activities, review business planning activities. Role: Entrepreneur Activity: Strategic Planning

First Responders - Brief: As a result of the 2/11 Vermont Nonprofit Advocacy Day (described below), we plan to identify, map and contact nonprofit advocates (human services, environment, arts/ culture, health, etc.) and convene a discussion on a First Responder Team to formulate, frame and delegate spokespeople on behalf of the state’s independent sector on issues of common concern. Role: Champion  Activity: Advocating
