2010 Channel 17 and CCTV Preview

January 03, 2010

New Year Greetings!

January has blown in with gusto as we prepare for a busy and productive 2010!

First, a warm “thank you” to all of you who contributed to CCTV’s Holiday Appeal. We are happy to report that we more than doubled the generous $2500 challenge grant in our first foray into holiday fundraising!

Your partnership and support will prove vital this year as the Channel 17 Trustees  renegotiate their new contract with Comcast Cable. We continue to gather public input about the kind of programs and services that you expect in the next 3-5 years and hope you will clarify your community needs and interests at one of two important public meetings on January 21 at 3 p.m. and March 26 at 6 p.m.

Be sure to add your voice to the cause and share your favorite moment, a story of how our community media center has benefited you or your organization, why Channel 17 is important to your efforts and what additional support you require.

It’s Channel 17’s 20th Year and while all eyes are on the opening of the Vermont Legislature this week, political watchers know that 2010 heralds three election seasons: Town Meeting, Primaries and the General Election. Ballot items for March town meetings are being finalized as you read this and a full field of candidates are already jockeying for the open Governor’s seat! You can watch many of them here but remember to tune in all year long as we bring you candidates, debates and issues to be sifted and decided through tried and true democratic process!

A final mention of CCTV’s work with Common Good Vermont. You can RSVP for the Annual Meeting on Monday, January 11 (12 - 2 p.m.)  and turn out for Vermont Nonprofit Legislative Day  at the Statehouse on Thursday, February 11 (8 - 3 p.m.) Look for the new Common Good Vermont website and be sure to sign up for the 2010 season of Media Maven Lunches. Starting with Tag It! on January 21 you’ll find a forward looking and inspiring line-up--you can’t beat the price: $10 for the general public and free for CCTV Members.

We invite you to take a look at CCTV's expanded member benefits and consider joining this year. With your participation, we can continue to stand tall for Free Speech, Public Access and Open Networks.

We hope YOUR year is healthy, happy and a credit to our community. We look forward to working for you and with you!

Breathless, like the north wind we are,

Lauren-Glenn Davitian and the Staff Members of CCTV and Channel 17
Nat, Jess, Rob, Tuija, Geoff, Meghan, Kevin, Sarah, Bill, Andy, Kathleen, Nick, Carl, Megan, Brent, Scott, Robert, Damir and Don
