From Green Mountain Transit:
Green Mountain Transit (GMT) today announced a draft service reduction plan that looks to cut $3 million of its routes and services, This difficult decision comes in response to ongoing financial instability that has severely impacted the organization’s ability to maintain current service levels.
As public transportation remains a critical service for many residents, this draft service reduction plan was made after a thorough analysis and consideration of all available options. GMT’s priority remains the safety and reliability of its services for those who depend on public transit.
GMT will work closely with local governments, community organizations, and other stakeholders to mitigate the impact on riders. The organization is also exploring alternative funding sources and service models to ensure the long-term sustainability of public transit in the region. During the month of September, dates to be determined, GMT will present the draft service reduction at a series of public meetings.
The first round of service reductions is scheduled to take effect in November 2024, with the remaining service reductions scheduled in February and June 2025. GMT will be providing detailed information to customers regarding the specific routes and services that will be affected, as well as alternative transportation options.
