Many Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) centers across the Northeast are experiencing significant budget shortfalls with no relief in sight. Their services are critical for airing local government proceedings, town hall meetings, etc., yet cable companies are eschewing any efforts to pay for continuing free-to-air access for this kind of programming.

A panel of industry experts and state officials discuss how states in the Eastern Region are working to ensure the continuity of public access to state and local news.

Host Margaret Harrington talks with Lauren Glenn Davitian, CEO of Center for Media and Democracy, Town Meeting tv, about changes at the station which impact the airing of community produced programs. While coronavirus has reduced the number of community produced shows because of the closing of the physical studio, a few of the shows which have continued have been relegated to obscurity by the policy of featuring shows on the basis of an unknown value judgment. Also the introduction of underwriters has changed the character of this open access tv station.
