Description

This is a remote meeting.

The CSWD has scheduled two public hearings to present the draft 2020 Solid Waste Implementation Plan (SWIP) and to provide two opportunities for public input on how CSWD will meet specific performance standards.

Meeting Dates and Times
Tuesday, September 29, 2020; 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday, October 7, 2020; 6:00 p.m.

The SWIP, required by State statute, states how CSWD will meet specific performance standards outlined in the November, 2019, Vermont Materials Management Plan (MMP).

The MMP provides a statewide strategy for the management of waste, including a framework for the State and its citizens to prevent waste from being generated and to expand reuse, recycling, and composting efforts to attain Vermont’s statewide goals.

To achieve this, the MMP outlines actions that both ANR and Solid Waste Management Entities–districts, alliances, and independent towns–must take to reduce the amount and toxicity of solid waste in Vermont. CSWD's draft SWIP includes information on how various waste streams are managed in Chittenden County; how members are and will be educated on waste prevention, reduction, and proper disposal; and how CSWD will meet the specific performance standards prescribed in the MMP.

The current Solid Waste Implementation Plan, the draft of the new Plan, and a one-click button for submitting written comments can all be found at cswd.net/forms-publications/swip. Comments may also be sent to "Plan" c/o CSWD, 1021 Redmond Rd., Williston, VT 05495.

Comments will be accepted through October 7, 2020.

Next Steps for SWIP Approval

CSWD staff review and consider public input.
CSWD Board of Commissioners adopts draft SWIP at the October Board meeting.
Staff submits adopted draft SWIP to the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources for final approval. The SWIP must be approved by November 19, 2020.
