Burlington Amtrak Train Storage Location Study – Site Evaluation Update

Updates on the site evaluation for a future servicing and storage location for the Amtrak Ethan Allen train which is currently scheduled to begin service to Burlington in 2021. A steering committee consisting of representatives from the City of Burlington, the State of Vermont, the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission, and project consultants VHB has been heading up the evaluation. While Amtrak has technical and logistical requirements that need to be met, the steering committee has also considered important factors such as view, noise, property and right of way impacts.

Five sites in Burlington are currently being evaluated:

• Flynn Ave, adjacent to the new City Market
• Vermont Rail System’s Burlington Railyard
• Burlington Waterfront Train Station between King and College Streets
• Urban Reserve, North of Waterfront Park
• Northern Urban Reserve, North of Dog Park

The public meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 6th at 6:00pm (Open House) and 6:30pm (Presentation). The meeting will take place at Burlington Department of Public Works, located at 645 Pine Street.
