The Global Health Program at the University of Vermont (UVM) Larner College of Medicine and the Western Connecticut Health Network (WCHN) is hosting "A Celebration of Global Health" at the College from April 17 to 18, 2018.

International guests include Marat Mukhamedyarov, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc., Head of International Department at Kazan State Medical University in Russia, and Tendai Machingaidze, M.Div., M.A., a medical student and author studying in Russia who hails from Zimbabwe. They will join WCHN and UVM Larner College of Medicine leaders, faculty, staff, and students for several events.

The celebration features a lunch buffet and the Dean's Distinguished Lecture in Global Health on "My Heart Burns: Three Words Form a Memoir" by Majid Sadigh, M.D., on Wednesday, April 18 beginning at 11:45 a.m. in the Sullivan Classroom.

In addition, a photo, poster, and reflection exhibit is on display in the first floor Given Hallway and viewers are encouraged to vote for their favorite photos on April 17. Photo, poster, and reflection award recipients will be announced following Dr. Sadigh's lecture.

UVM Community Medical School: Lyme Disease - Big, Bad Borrelia burgdorferi & the Tiny Tick 10/03/2017

Northeasterners have likely experienced the sharp pang of dread associated with finding a tick embedded in their skin. Unfortunately, for many bitten by a Borrelia burgdorferi-infected tick, that dread can lead to fever, leg and arm weakness, facial paralysis, or short-term memory loss. Learn about the details of Lyme disease in Vermont, the body's immune response to Lyme, the manifestation of arthritis in Lyme patients, antibiotic resistance, and research designed to support and improve education and prevention practices.

Panelists include staff from the Vermont Department of Health and the Vermont Center for Immunology & Infectious Diseases, as well as a CDC Lyme Corps member.

As of January 15, 2017 all Vermont patients are legally required to be informed of their breast density, but now that patients know their breast density, what should they do with this information? Learn how a woman's breast density category affects her risk of developing breast cancer and how radiologists can detect it on mammography. Find out what you can do to improve the odds of a cancer being detected early, when treatable. The pros and cons of additional screening methods will be discussed to help patients make better-informed choices. Summer Video Production Internship - Applications Open

Town Meeting TV is hiring two paid interns to join our production team for the summer! The program will run from Monday, June 24th until Friday, August 16th (8 weeks). $17 an hour, approximately 8 hours per week. We are looking for folks who have basic or intermediate experience with video recording and editing on Adobe Premiere. Interns will work with the Town Meeting TV Co-Directors to pick stories or events that they would like to cover in our community, practice outreach skills, then shoot and edit video that will be broadcasted on Town Meeting TV's YouTube and cable channels.
