What Do We Need From Journalists Now That Trump Has Been Elected? 02/01/2017

Jay Rosen, perhaps our most astute observer of the press, is coming to McCarthy Recital Hall, Saint Michael's College this Wednesday, February 1st, to ask and answer the question, “What do we need from journalists now that Trump has been elected?”

Rosen is one of the Trump administration’s most visible and influential critics on issues surrounding journalism and the First Amendment. He has 189,000 twitter followers, has been quoted in every major U.S. newspaper and has appeared on Bill Moyers Journal and more recently on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell, and other national television outlets. A long-form blogger and creator of PressThink, Rosen has written two pieces that are considered blueprints for journalists covering a presidency that threatens First Amendment protections. The pieces are “Winter is coming: prospects for the American press under Trump” and “Prospects for the American press under Trump, part two.” This rare opportunity to hear this important and engaging speaker is open to the college, the public, and the press.

Online videos currently capture 90% of all internet traffic. Email marketing campaigns are markedly more effective when mixed with video, as video helps to provide a much higher – 85% – “close rate”. Mobile videos have been proven to be the most effective form of learning by next generation (ngen) workers. According to recent statistics, an average 1-minute video equals 180,000 words. The Demise of the News Media…and Why That Matters - Barrie Dunsmore 03/22/2012

Barrie Dunsmore presents a public lecture titled, “The Demise of the News Media…and Why That Matters.” The event, is part of the UVM Political Science Department’s Mark L. Rosen Lecture Series. Dunsmore covered foreign affairs for ABC News for thirty years, reporting from Washington and abroad on the policies of seven U.S. Presidents from Johnson to Clinton. He traveled with them all overseas and was a regular on the planes of their Secretaries of State. From 1965-95 he reported from more than one hundred countries on virtually every major international event from wars to summits to diplomatic shuttles. Dunsmore is the author of There and Back, a collection of columns on Middle East policy, superpower strategies and controversial domestic issues. He is a regular commentator on VPR and a columnist for the Rutland Herald.

Summer Video Production Internship - Applications Open

Town Meeting TV is hiring two paid interns to join our production team for the summer! The program will run from Monday, June 24th until Friday, August 16th (8 weeks). $17 an hour, approximately 8 hours per week. We are looking for folks who have basic or intermediate experience with video recording and editing on Adobe Premiere. Interns will work with the Town Meeting TV Co-Directors to pick stories or events that they would like to cover in our community, practice outreach skills, then shoot and edit video that will be broadcasted on Town Meeting TV's YouTube and cable channels. Interested applicants should send their resume and cover letter (including why they are interested in this position and any relevant experience) to Jordan at jmitchell@cctv.org.
