Bread and Puppet Theatre: GAZA EMERGENCY MASS 11/19/2023

From the organizer:

The No Water, No Food, No Electricity, No Medicine Gaza Emergency Mass features newly created theater with Bedsheets painted by Peter Schumann in response to the current genocidal Nakba and ceaseless Israeli bombing of hospitals in Gaza with the complicity of the Biden administration. The Mass processes from the Dirt-Floor Cathedral hung with 5 Gaza Cantastoria paintings, through 2 additional passages hung with Gaza-themed Bedsheets up into the Ballroom where Cantastorias and Terrorizing Dances are performed by the company before the three largest Bedsheets in this series. An impassioned performance of the Genocide Rant by Peter Schumann ends the Gaza Emergency Mass. Then Bread & aioli!

Bread and Puppet Theatre: Kropotkin Series Bedsheets & Kropotkin Biographical Performance 10/13/2023

Features Peter Schumann Kropotkin Bedsheet series (executed Spring? Summer2023) which were laid out on the studio floor of Jules and Helen Rabin cut to fit specific places on the library's walls, so as to create a travelling exhibit devoted to quotations of Kropotkin set into expressionist representational images.

Bread and Puppet Theatre: Karma Birdhouse 09/08/2023

From the organizer:

Film documentation of the September 9, 2023 Opening at the Karma Birdhouse in Burlington (exhibition closes December 1), containing some 60 years of Bread and Puppet artifacts, including most recent Bedsheet Paintings by Peter Schumann. Featured sections include rehearsal with the day's volunteers of The Foot led by Alexis and Tanja, a view of the silkscreen workshop, Peter's performance of a new Fiddle Rant, multiple Bedsheets hanging in the courtyard, and evening performance of The Foot to an enthusiastic audience, as well as some preview shots of the indoor exhibition itself, which includes a wall of photos by Michael Boylen, Mark Dannenhauer, and Ron Simon. Musik by the B&P Jazz Band circa 2020.

The Foot was created in NYC in 1982, during the week preceding the massive anti-nuclear protest on June 12th. The theme of B&P's part in the parade was spelled out in three parts -- The World, The End of the World, The Fight Against the End of the World. Company members estimated that 1,000 people participated with B&P, and a classic line from one police officer: 'Is there anyone left in Vermont?'

Bread and Puppet Theatre: Medea Benjamin - PEACE IN UKRAINE at Bread&Puppet 08/18/2023

From the organizer:

August 18, 2023 in the Dirt Floor Theater at Bread and Puppet - Medea Benjamin, anti-war activist and co-founder of Code Pink, exposes contradictions in the coverages of the major liberal media in their protection of the hypocrisies of the Biden Administration. She points out that there has never been any US attempt to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine war with Russia, no direct talks by President Biden to Vladiimir Putin nor by Secretary of State Blinken with his Russian counterpart. Benjamin maintains that America challenges Russia - while dominating the NATO countries - to maintain the hegemony of an American empire mired in the thrashings of late capitalism

Following her fact-filled address, there are challenging and probing questions from the audience, many of whom are inspired by the thought of confronting Sen. Bernie Sanders in his support of the Biden Administration's stance.
