Description: Channel 17/Town Meeting TV is seeking a Community Engagement Intern for Fall 2013.  If you enjoy a challenge, creating plans and implementing them, working with a wide variety of people and testing uncharted waters, this is a great position for you.  Work with Channel 17’s Training and Outreach coordinator to support the organization’s strategic communications plan, which includes grassroots marketing, community outreach and social media. Term: Up to 120 hours between September – December 2013.

Qualifications: The ideal Channel 17 Community Engagement Intern is:

- Independent and self motivated
- Extremely comfortable with face-to-face, phone, written and email communication
- A strong communicator with a desire to meet and engage people they have not yet met
- Able to stay focused on the task at hand
- Technically adept, with working basic knowledge of Macs and PC applications, mobile devices, social media applications
- Experienced with video or willing to learn (including Final Cut, Premiere or imovie editing systems)
- Interested in grass roots community organizing
- Passionate about using media to make our community a better place to live.

Responsibilities: The Community Engagement Intern will:

- Follow up with Channel 17 customers via email,  phone, written communication or social media
- Help to keep the organization’s database up-to-date
- Monitor multiple social media accounts and promote participation through strategic activities
- Cultivate a diverse base of new Channel 17 customers through short term media campaigns
- Educate themselves and the organization about best practices in social media
- Produce short video content to document/promote Channel 17 activities and producers
- Create materials to assist community producers in marketing their own programming.

Channel 17/Town Meeting TVprovides government access and public affairs programming for the Comcast cable subscribers of Colchester, South Burlington, Burlington, Essex Town, Essex Junction, Winooski, Williston and St. George as well as to the subscribers of Burlington Telecom. Channel 17’s mission opens the doors to local government. Channel 17 is operated by CCTV Center for Media & Democracy which provides channels, tools and training for community-based organizations and activists to expand their reach and impact and make social change happen.
