Last fall, the state put forward its Vermont Water Quality Initiative and Governor Shumlin highlighted his commitment to cleaning up the lake in his inaugural address.  The Administration bill to implement this initiative was introduced in the House last Friday.  “We are absolutely committed to clean water, including cleaning up Lake Champlain,” remarked David Mears, Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation. “With unprecedented cooperation between state agencies, additional funds and resources now available to us, and with the US EPA, Governor Shumlin, and the will of the people of Vermont behind us, the time to clean up our Lake is now.”

“Here in the Champlain Valley, the lake is like our front yard, and we need to take care of it,” said Lea Terhune, Champlain Valley League of Women Voters.  The whole region is affected by Lake water quality.  "Lake Champlain's health is critical to our economic prosperity and quality of life," stated Lori Fisher, Lake Champlain Committee executive director. "We need to fund and implement a plan to protect and restore water quality so our communities thrive."

The event is presented by the Champlain Valley League of Women Voters.  Media Sponsorship is provided by Channel 17/Town Meeting TV.
