Reforming the Way We Conduct and Finance Our Federal Elections Featuring presentations on both sides of the current debate about the nature and consequences of the way we conduct federal elections. Among the many topics discussed are: costs of federal elections and how they are financed; the McCain-Feingold and the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision; possible changes, from public financing schemes, to redrawing of political districts, to the creation of a national holiday on election day, to voter registration reform, to shorter election periods and changes in access to the public airwaves.

Senator Bernie Sanders: Older American Summit Sen. Sanders (I-Vt.) and other senators are hosting a summit meeting with seniors’ organizations today. Sanders also plans to introduce legislation the same day to reauthorize and strengthen the landmark Older Americans Act which supports Meals on Wheels and other critical programs for seniors. Sanders is the chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging, which has jurisdiction over the Older Americans Act. Leahy Environmental Summit, Keynote Address by Robert Kennedy Jr. 05/30/2013 Robert Kennedy, Jr., president of the Waterkeeper Alliance, is the keynote speaker on the second day of the the two-day Leahy Environmental Summit, at ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center on the shores of Lake Champlain, VT. The conference brings together members of the sector to increase awareness of water stewardship efforts in our community, improving the state of water across the Lake Champlain watershed and create collaborations to improve water quality.
