Burlington City Hall Looking for Interns

December 12, 2012

City Hall Internship Pilot Program

The City of Burlington is excited to announce that we are seeking motivated candidates for internships within city government in the spring. Internships will provide individuals with educational experience in local government that will help them develop skills and proficiencies through attendance at city meetings, coordinating communications, planning events and initiatives, researching and drafting reports, and more.

The City Hall Internship Program will provide individuals with an opportunity for learning and growth that exposes them to government and municipal policy, as well as bestowing them with meaningful responsibilities.

Prospective interns will be assigned specific areas within the City’s public engagement and community development efforts. Some examples of the types of tasks that could be performed include:

  •  Policy analysis
  •  Evaluation and research
  •  Project and program management
  •  Public affairs and communications
  •  Social media
  •  Event coordination
  •  External affairs and community outreach

The program is run on a semester-based schedule to accommodate college students, but individuals of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. As having an internship program is new for City Hall, at least in recent memory, it will be run as a pilot on the spring. Please note there is a December 17 application deadline to be eligible for an internship from January to May in the pilot program. To apply, please email me at kram [at] burlingtonvt [dot] gov for further details and an electronic copy of the application form, as we are not able to get the application form online this week.

The City of Burlington does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age, gender identity, political affiliation, marital status, veteran status, or disability in employment or the provision of services. Women, minorities, and people with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply.
