Media Maven: Mapping for Nonprofits: Advancing Your Mission with Maps (GIS Tools) 12/10/2009

Geographic information systems (GIS) and online mapping applications continue to become more powerful and easier to use every year. Nonprofit and community organizations around the globe are harnessing these tools to mobilize supporters and advocates, to tell their stories and the stories of their constituents, and to share knowledge with people, organizations, and communities everywhere. What are the primary uses for mapping? What are the tools and technologies used in nonprofit mapping (Google and others)? We’ll look at inspiring examples in Vermont and beyond. Burlington Ward 6 NPA Meeting 12/03/2009

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to encourage citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies help improve communication between the citizens of Burlington and City government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Ward 6 meets the first Thursday of the month. Meeting place: Greek Orthodox Church 600 South Willard Street.

The Institute for Civic Engagement at Burlington College hosts John Franco, co-chair of the Burlington Progressive Party, discussing the importance of Burlington Telecom and other municipally owned infrastructure.

Burlington Telecom Advisory Committee 11/24/2009

The Burlington Telecommunications Advisory Committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month. BTAC is responsible for Advising Burlington Telecom on a number of issues from the public's perspective. BTAC deals with buildout issues, some financing and channel addtions or deletions.

Ad Hoc Committee on Burlington Telecom Governance 11/24/2009

A special Ad Hoc Chaired by Councilor Joan Shannon. Committee goes over past and current structure of Burlington Telecom governance. Who plays what role in respect to Burlington Telecom. Committee goes through Burlington City Charter and state statutes to further explore governing structure possibilities. Committee searches and discusses possible future governance structure for Burlington Telecom.

Ad Hoc Committee for the Audit RFP for Burlington Telecom 11/23/2009

A special Ad Hoc Chaired by Councilor Karen Paul. This committee was formed to explore questions relating to an audit to Burlington Telecom. Also to answer questions about audits, what they accomplish and which type of audit is best for the financial questions about Burlington Telecom's past and future.

CCTV Receives NEH Grant to Support Community Archives

CCTV Center for Media & Democracy is pleased to announce receipt of a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Humanities Collections and Reference Resources grant alongside 32 peer archival institutions across the country.
