Chuck Collins speaks at Unitarian Universalist Church in Burlington, Vermont.

Collins is a researcher, campaigner, storyteller, and writer based at the Institute for Policy Studies where he co-edits Inequality.org. He has written extensively on wealth inequality in previous books like 99 to 1, Wealth and Our Commonwealth (with Bill Gates Sr.), and Economic Apartheid in America as well as in The Nation, The American Prospect, and numerous other magazines and news outlets. Collins grew up in the 1 percent as the great grandson of meatpacker Oscar Mayer, but at age 26 he gave away his inheritance. He has been working to reduce inequality and strengthen communities since 1982 and in the process has cofounded numerous initiatives, including Wealth for the Common Good (now merged with the Patriotic Millionaires), United for a Fair Economy, and Divest-Invest. He is also a leader in the transition movement, and a co-founder of the Jamaica Plain New Economy Transition and the Jamaica Plain Forum, both in the Boston-area community in which he lives.

Champlain Housing Trust Meeting on the Purchase of the St. Joseph’s School 11/30/2016

Champlain Housing Trust reached an agreement with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington to lease and then purchase the St. Joseph’s School on Allen Street in Burlington’s Old North End. The former Catholic School has been home to Robin’s Nest Children Center, Association of Africans Living in Vermont, and the Janet S. Munt Family Room providing needed services to the community. The purchase allows these programs to continue in the building along with a new tenant, the City of Burlington’s Parks & Recreation Department.

CHT hosts a meeting at the school (20 Allen Street) on November 30 to let the community know about the plans and solicit feedback.

Burlington Ward 4 and Ward 7 NPA Meeting 11/16/2016

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to empower citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies facilitate communication between the citizens of Burlington and city government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Wards 4 & 7 meet the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Meeting place: Robert E. Miller Community Center 130 Gosse Court.
