Burlington Ward 6 NPA Meeting 04/07/2016

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to empower citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies facilitate communication between the citizens of Burlington and city government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward.

Chelsea Green Book Talks: Carbon Farming Solutions with Eric Toensmeier 03/25/2016

A public lecture by Eric Toensmeier on Carbon Farming hosted by Chelsea Green Publishing and NOFA VT at Shelburne Farms in partnership with Edible Landscapes.

Carbon farming is a suite of agricultural practices and crops that sequester carbon in the soil and in aboveground biomass. Combined with a massive reduction in fossil fuel emissions—and in concert with adaptation strategies to our changing environment— carbon farming has the potential to bring us back from the brink of disaster and return our atmosphere to the “magic number” of 350 parts per million of carbon dioxide

Eric Toensmeier is the award-winning author of Paradise Lot and Perennial Vegetables, and the co-author of Edible Forest Gardens. Eric is an appointed lecturer at Yale University, a Senior Fellow with Project Drawdown, and an international trainer. He presents in English and Spanish throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, and the Caribbean. Eric has studied useful perennial plants and their roles in agroforestry systems for over two decades, and cultivates about 300 species in his urban garden.  Eric is currently writing: Carbon Farming: a Global Toolkit for Stabilizing the Climate with Tree Crops and Regenerative Agriculture Practices.  More of his writing can be viewed online at perennialsolutions.org.

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to empower citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies facilitate communication between the citizens of Burlington and city government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Wards 4 & 7 meet the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Meeting place: Robert E. Miller Community Center 130 Gosse Court.

State Indicators - Developed by the state’s Chief Performance Officer, Sue Zeller, using data provided by state agencies and outlined in Act 186, which specifies population level indicators and ties them into agency budget performance.

Vermont Scorecard – Revived from the early 2000’s and further developed by Dru Roessle, Performance Improvement Manager at the Agency of Human Services, the scorecard shows how Vermonters are doing on important indicators of health and well being.

Vermont Insights – Produced by Building Bright Futures with funding from the Vermont Department of Education’s Race to the Top Grant, Vermont Insights provides a number of data sets pertinent to the well-being of Vermont children and families.
