Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebrations: Keynote Speaker Ilyasah Shabazz 01/17/2016

The Greater Burlington Multicultural Resource Center hosts keynote speaker Ilyasah Shabazz, civil rights activist, author, and third daughter of Malcolm X, delivers the 2016 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day keynote address. Ms. Shabazz is known for her memoir, Growing up X, for which she won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Nonfiction Literary Work.

At the event, the Greater Burlington Multicultural Resource Center honors this year’s recipients of the 2016 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award: Jan Demers, Executive Director of the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO), for her work helping homeless and economically disadvantaged community members; and Jay Diaz, Public Advocate for the ACLU of Vermont, for his untiring work to promote stability, access, and equal opportunity to low income Vermont children.

The Mission of the Greater Burlington Multicultural Resource Center (GBMRC) is to increase awareness and provide opportunities to celebrate, promote and support cultural diversity within our community.

In recognition of the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII and Veterans Day, please join us for a conversation and stories from WWII veterans living locally here in Vermont. During the event, veterans will discuss their military experiences as well as their return to civilian life after the war.

CCV serves more than 600 veterans and military-connected students each year, and is committed to honoring their service and providing essential services to meet their needs. The Veteran and Military Services team offers a range of support services, including professional tutoring, specialized career services, and access to VA Vet Center services. Enhanced services for military veterans at CCV are funded by the J. Warren and Lois McClure Foundation, Bari and Peter Dreissigacker, Dave Stiller, and the Vermont Community Foundation.

Lifting the Lost Shul Mural at Ohavi Zedek 05/28/2015

Follow the move of the Lost Shul Mural from the Chai Adam Synagogue on Burlington's Hyde Street, to it's new home at Ohavi Zedek Synagogue on North Prospect Street. An engineering and organizational feat, enjoyed by the many watching, the many participating and the many to benefit from saving this importatnt piece of history and art.
