Media Maven: Mapping for Nonprofits: Advancing Your Mission with Maps (GIS Tools) 12/10/2009

Geographic information systems (GIS) and online mapping applications continue to become more powerful and easier to use every year. Nonprofit and community organizations around the globe are harnessing these tools to mobilize supporters and advocates, to tell their stories and the stories of their constituents, and to share knowledge with people, organizations, and communities everywhere. What are the primary uses for mapping? What are the tools and technologies used in nonprofit mapping (Google and others)? We’ll look at inspiring examples in Vermont and beyond. Andrea Learned, co-author of Don’t Think Pink: What Really Makes Women Buy – and How to Increase Your Share of This Crucial Market (AMACOM, 2004), will give some marketing tips. Andrea is an internationally respected gender marketing expert, speaker and writer. While she focuses on women as the leading indicators of consumer behavior, she also emphasizes that 21st Century men are starting to travel similar buying paths. Andrea believes that storytelling and cause marketing are key ways to present a brand’s facts and attributes to today’s consumer – no gender about it. Andrea contributes to a wide range of publications/blogs, including HuffingtonPost.com, MPDailyfix.com, TomPeters.com, Women-omics.com, and LearnedOnWomen.com - where she presents her most current analysis of consumer/cultural shifts and marketing best practices. She presents regularly to global business audiences, and her opinions have been cited in publications from Adweek to the Christian Science Monitor and The New York Times. Wards 4 & 7 NPA Meeting 11/17/2009

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to empower citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies facilitate communication between the citizens of Burlington and city government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Wards 4 & 7 meet the third Tuesday of the month. Meeting place: Robert E. Miller Community Center 130 Gosse Court.

Summer Video Production Internship - Applications Open

Town Meeting TV is hiring two paid interns to join our production team for the summer! The program will run from Monday, June 24th until Friday, August 16th (8 weeks). $17 an hour, approximately 8 hours per week. We are looking for folks who have basic or intermediate experience with video recording and editing on Adobe Premiere. Interns will work with the Town Meeting TV Co-Directors to pick stories or events that they would like to cover in our community, practice outreach skills, then shoot and edit video that will be broadcasted on Town Meeting TV's YouTube and cable channels. Interested applicants should send their resume and cover letter (including why they are interested in this position and any relevant experience) to Jordan at jmitchell@cctv.org.
