Discussion of Amendment to U.S. Constitution - Corporate Personhood 02/23/2012

The focus on how to truly fix the way we finance and conduct our federal campaigns so Congress will have reasonable incentive to serve the interests of all Americans rather than often those of wealthy campaign contributors. All interested Vermont citizens invited. Rick Hubbard will moderate the discussion.

Panelists include: Vermont State Senator Ginny Lyons, who has introduced a resolution proposing "an amendment to the United States Constitution ... which provides that corporations are not persons under the laws of the United States."; Jerry Greenfield, Co-Founder of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream who has stated that “Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream is not a person.”; Aquene Freechild, senior organizer of Public Citizen’s Democracy is for People Campaign; and Dan Barrett, Staff Attorney for the Vermont American Civil Liberties Union.

10 Years Too Many: National Day of Action Against Guantánamo 01/11/2012

January 11, 2012, marks 10 years since the first detainees were transferred to the U.S. detention center in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. According to U.S. authorities, 779 detainees have been held in Guantánamo, the vast majority without charge or criminal trial. Presently 171 prisoners are incarcerated there. The continued operation of the detention facility is a symbol of how the United States has failed to respect the rule of law and human rights in its response to 9/11, and how it is still failing a decade later. Burlington area residents perform street theater, have a few speakers and chant the names of the remaining prisoners.
