VT 10 Year Telecommunications Plan Public Hearing - Cell Service, Public Safety, and Public Access Television 04/01/2021

The Vermont Department of Public Service is working with an outside consultant to develop and write a Telecommunications Plan that meets new requirements set forth by Act 79 (2019), an act relating to broadband deployment throughout Vermont, and 30 V.S.A. § 202d, as amended by Act 137 (2020), an act relating to COVID-19 funding and assistance for broadband connectivity, housing, and economic relief.

Two important public input sessions occurred on March 31st and April 1st, hosted by the Vermont Department of Public Service. Each session was an opportunity to raise questions and provide feedback about topics related to Vermont’s telecommunications future — who has access, how much it will cost, and if it meets community needs and interests.

In this session, the focus is on Cell Service, Public Safety, and Public Access Television.

Discussion Between Civilians and Burlington Police Officers 03/10/2021

In the wake of protests in response to the murder of George Floyd, the Burlington City Council voted to reduce the Burlington Police Force by 30% and called for reforms in how we approach public safety. The city administration appointed a special 6 month liason to assess the Burlington police, calling the position the Director of Police Transformation. As part of that work, conversations were convened between citizens and police officers.
