Library of Congress Traveling Exhibit Rolls into Burlington, Vt. - A special Library of Congress traveling exhibition-mounted in a customized 18-wheel truck visits Burlington, Vt.. The exhibit, "Gateway to Knowledge" brings high-quality facsimiles of many of the Library's top treasures and information about the millions of resources in the Library's unparalleled collections to small towns and rural communities across America-areas that may not be aware of their access to the wealth of information in this publicly funded institution. Ultimately, the "Gateway to Knowledge" is expected to visit up to 60 sites in states across the Midwest and South during the year. For further information about the exhibit, visit www.loc.gov/gateway/

Fred Hampton, leader of the Chicago Black Panthers, was killed while he lay sleeping during a police raid of his apartment in December, 1969.  Mark Clark, another Panther, was also killed, and four other Panthers were shot.  Jeffery Haas and his partners at the People's Law Office spent the next 13 years representing the families in a civil suit.  In 2004, Haas began writing about the life and death of Fred Hampton, culminating in the book, 'The Assassination of Fred Hampton: How the FBI and Chicago Police Murdered a Black Panther' which attempts to capture the mood and political tensions of that moment.  Haas speaks to the time and issues at a book signing.
