Burlington, Vermont and Yaroslavl, Russia are sister cities. Artful Word: Vermont International Festival 12/03/2010

The Vermont International Festival is a multi-cultural community event sponsored by the Vermont Performing Arts League. VPAL is a non-profit organization that has been active in the promotion of international music, dance and crafts since 1978.  The Vermont Performing Arts League's 18th Vermont International Festival, an annual celebration of cultures from around the world, bringing their crafts, foods, music and dance to our doorstep. Burlington Ward 6 NPA Meeting 12/02/2010

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to encourage citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies help improve communication between the citizens of Burlington and City government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Ward 6 meets the first Thursday of the month. Meeting place: Greek Orthodox Church 600 South Willard Street.

Planning in today's uncertain environment requires both nonprofit leaders to know where an organization stands and to understand that tough times will mark change in the organization’s leadership style. Brothers starts with the state of the US nonprofit sector and the major financial challenges that affect small and medium sized organizations. He reviews the hallmarks of high functioning organizations and stages of nonprofit development. In the last part of his talk, John brings these together to recommend different type of leadership styles called for by these trends and internal factors. are well known and respected clinicians at The Center for Learning and Attention Disorders, a program of Seacoast Mental Health Center, in Portsmouth, New Hamphsire. They are also co-authors of numerous publications including their recently published Executive Skills in Children and Adolescents: A Practical Guide to Assessment and Intervention and Smart but Scattered.

Children and adolescents with poor executive skills can be a little bit like driving in a car, gas pedal to the floor, with the brakes on back order. They have many decisions to make in the course of their day and may appear disorganized or forgetful, easily distracted, careless or rushed. Perhaps, they don’t know where to begin on long-term assignments or they put them off until the last minute, in part because they have trouble judging the magnitude of the task and how long it will take to complete. And this is only in relation to schoolwork! In today’s culture many other situations present themselves: to drink, do drugs, have sex and more. How do we teach children the skills and self-discipline necessary to live in today’s world?

Summer Video Production Internship - Applications Open

Town Meeting TV is hiring two paid interns to join our production team for the summer! The program will run from Monday, June 24th until Friday, August 16th (8 weeks). $17 an hour, approximately 8 hours per week. We are looking for folks who have basic or intermediate experience with video recording and editing on Adobe Premiere. Interns will work with the Town Meeting TV Co-Directors to pick stories or events that they would like to cover in our community, practice outreach skills, then shoot and edit video that will be broadcasted on Town Meeting TV's YouTube and cable channels.
