Senator Patrick Leahy: National Telecommunications Information Administration Awards $47 Million for Building Broadband Infrastructure in Vermont 07/02/2010

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke with Senator Leahy, Senator Sanders, Representative Welch and Governor Douglas on the National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) awarding of a $33.4 million grant to the Vermont Telecommunications Authority (VTA) and a $13.7 million grant to the Vermont Telephone Company (VTEL) through NTIA’s Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP). The two grants are part of a $7.2 billion broadband investment program that Congress and President Obama crafted as part of last year’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Vermont Access Network (VAN): Creative Workforce Solutions Employment Institute 06/29/2010

On June 28th Voc Rehab Vermont and VABIR launched "Creative Workforce Solutions". All state agencies, who are covered under the Agency of Human Services, will be working together due to Challenges for Changes. Recorded on June 29th, the kick off at the state house - developed a plan for all the agencies to work with Voc Rehab Vermont on Employment. The goal is to have all jobseekers have the access to employment and incentives, regardless with what agency the participant come from. Further more - VABIR and VR will take the lead on this initiative and other agencies will need to adapt their employment programs.

Burlington Mayor's Press Conference: DPW's New Natural Gas-Powered Recycling Truck 06/28/2010

Burlington Mayor Bob Kiss unveils the City’s new compressed natural gas (CNG) recycling truck. Mayor Kiss will be joined by DPW staff and Ed Cleary, president of J&B International of Colchester, the truck supplier. At a cost of $226,000 the purchase price of a CNG truck is higher than a standard diesel. But, the use of CNG has tangible environmental benefits especially for a truck that is always in use and on the road. Benefits include substantially lower greenhouse gas emissions, less air pollution, quieter operation and a truck powered by CNG with fuel costs less than diesel. Burlington’s CNG recycling truck is the first in Vermont. Acquisition of the truck is part of DPW and the City’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint guided by the Burlington Climate Action Plan.

Summer Video Production Internship - Applications Open

Town Meeting TV is hiring two paid interns to join our production team for the summer! The program will run from Monday, June 24th until Friday, August 16th (8 weeks). $17 an hour, approximately 8 hours per week. We are looking for folks who have basic or intermediate experience with video recording and editing on Adobe Premiere. Interns will work with the Town Meeting TV Co-Directors to pick stories or events that they would like to cover in our community, practice outreach skills, then shoot and edit video that will be broadcasted on Town Meeting TV's YouTube and cable channels. Interested applicants should send their resume and cover letter (including why they are interested in this position and any relevant experience) to Jordan at jmitchell@cctv.org.
