Downtown Housing Strategy Report Public Forum 06/12/2014

Mayor Weinberger and CEDO host this public forum to solicit feedback and comment on the Downtown Housing Strategy Report prepared by HR&A Advisors. The feedback will be used to develop a strategic housing plan in consultation with stakeholders, including the affordable housing community, the active transportation community, local employers, AARP, our major institutions, the development community, Preservation Burlington, and environmental groups. CEDO staff will incorporate the report findings and public comments into a Housing Action Plan. A draft of the plan will be presented for public comment at a second public meeting in early September, with the goal of having the plan adopted by full City Council in fall 2014.

Burlington Ward 6 NPA Meeting 06/05/2014

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to encourage citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies help improve communication between the citizens of Burlington and City government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Ward 6 meets the first Thursday of the month. Meeting place: Greek Orthodox Church 600 South Willard Street.

The afternoon plenary of the 2014 12th Annual Vermont Employee Ownership Conference. Panel discussion on 'Employee Ownership in the Workplace: What Difference Does It Make, Really?' Panelists include: Deborah Harris, PT 360; John Hayes, CAD Cut; Kristin Howard, Real Pickles; Missy McManigle, Walman Optical; Mark Ruskin, Carris Reels. The moderator for the discussion is Cindy Turcot from Gardener's Supply Company, with comments and follow-up questoins from Joseph Blasi.

The conference is ddesigned for business owners and employees interested in bringing employee ownership to their companies; those who work in established employee-owned businesses; economic development professionals; bankers, accountants, attorneys and financial planners; and anyone who is interested in employee participation or sustainable business models.

The Vermont Employee Ownership Center is a statewide non-profit whose mission is to promote and foster employee ownership in order to broaden capital ownership, deepen employee participation, retain jobs, increase living standards for working families, and stabilize communities.

Senator Bernie Sanders: Worker-Owned Businesses 06/02/2014

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is joined by representatives of worker-owned Vermont businesses and Dr. Joseph Blasi, an employee-ownership expert at Rutgers, to announce legislation that Sanders will introduce in the Senate.The legislation would provide assistance to workers who want to form their own businesses by creating Employee Stock Ownership Plans or worker-owned cooperatives.
