Host Dennis McMahon talks to Steve Parren, Wildlife Diversity Program Manager for VT Fish and Wildlife Department, who has been working on endangered and threatened species projects for many years and liaison to the VT Endangered Species Committee for the Agency of Natural Resources.
The Mission of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is the conservation of fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the people of Vermont. They have been managing, protecting, and recovering species for a long time. They own a lot of land that is provides habitat for many species and places to hunt and fish. Worked to restore deer in the late 1800s, fisher in the 1960s, turkey 1969. Peregrine falcon, osprey, and loon delisted in 2005 (will try to locate the stuffed loon). The Wildlife Diversity Program has wildlife biologists, zoologist, botanist, natural community ecologists and biological information managers that help gather, evaluate, and share spatial conservation information.
They are proposing changes the state Endangered Species Law and will hold a public meeting on August 5th, 6:30 PM in the Pavilion Bldg in Montpelier.
